FAQs About Dentures

Your smile is a very important part of your personality and having confidence in your smile is a big deal. When you lose your teeth, you have a lot of decisions to make about how to replace your smile. It’s important to have all of your questions answered so that you know you’re making the best decision for yourself and your smile. Dr. Eric Broe at Palm Leaf Dental in Ponte Vedra, FL, is here to answer any questions you may have about dentures and help you decide what will be best for your smile.

What are the Different Types of Dentures?

When it comes to dentures, there are a few different options, depending on the type of tooth loss you have experienced. When all of your teeth need to be removed, you’ll have to receive full dentures, but when not all of your teeth need to be removed, you can receive partial dentures. With partial dentures, they are similar to a bridge but aren’t a permanent fixture in your mouth.

The two types of full dentures you may receive are:

  • Conventional Full Dentures- With these, the teeth are all removed and given time to heal. During this time, you will be toothless until your gums have healed and the dentures can be placed.
  • Immediate Full Dentures- With this option, your dentist in Ponte Vedra, FL, will take measurements before your teeth are removed and have dentures fitted to your mouth. The dentures are then immediately placed after the teeth are removed.

How Do I Care for Dentures?

Unlike regular teeth, you do not brush dentures with toothpaste. Instead, there is a special denture brush you can use to scrape away any food stuck to your dentures and after rinsing, you can soak them in a water-based cleaning solution overnight.

Can I Sleep in My Dentures?

You can, however, it is not recommended. By removing your dentures overnight, you’re giving your gums a chance to rest and relax.

Can I Eat Regularly with Dentures?

It may take some time to get used to your new dentures, but after some practice, you should be able to eat normally again.
